The Slow Dance
The Slow Dance
Last weekend Uncle Michael married his girlfriend, Hannah. I was really excited because I was the ringbearer. I had never been in a wedding before and was a little nervous about being in front of all those people. But it was actually pretty easy. People smiled and waved at me, as I walked down the aisle with the flower girl. Everyone in my family told me I did a great job. But still, I was relieved when it was all over! All that was left was posing for pictures and then the reception, which was a big party.
The reception was going well ... until the bridal dance started. My parents told me I would have to dance with Katie, the flower girl! I didn't even know how to dance to slow music. I pictured myself tripping over Katie's feet. This was going to be a disaster! "Jimmy, this is your responsibility as the ring bearer," my parents said, "you have to do it."
I walked over to where the wedding party had gathered, but Katie was nowhere to be found. The DJ introduced the bride and groom and announced their first dance. I turned to see if Katie had arrived, but there was still no sign of her. Soon, the DJ called the names of each couple from the bridal party, and they were walking onto the dance floor. What would I do when he announced the ring bearer and flower girl? I couldn't go out there and dance by myself!
Finally, I saw Katie standing next to her mom, tightly grasping her mother's arm. She looked terrified. I could sense that she didn't want to slow dance either. I walked toward her, as the DJ called our names. Katie's mom whispered something into her ear. She let go of her mother's arm and walked towards me. We joined the other couples on the dance floor and stared at our feet. Then we started to move around the dance floor.
The song was almost over when we lightly bonked heads. I quickly apologized and asked Katie if she was okay. She said she was fine and apologized to me. She laughed and told me she was looking down to make sure she didn't step on my feet. I giggled and said I was doing the same thing. The slow song ended and was followed by a faster one.
"I love this song!" We both shouted. Then we laughed and immediately started dancing to the beat. Our parents joined us, and we all danced the night away.
