How to Build a Birdhouse

Sam wanted to build a birdhouse for his backyard. His dad said he could help. Together, they planned what they would need.

First, Sam and his dad gathered their materials. They got a wooden board, nails, a hammer, and sandpaper. They also found a drill with a small bit. Sam felt proud to be building something new.

Next, Sam's dad cut the board into five pieces. One piece would be the front and back. Two pieces would be the sides. One piece would be the bottom, and one would be the roof. Sam watched carefully as his dad cut each piece.

Then, Sam and his dad began to assemble the birdhouse. They took the front and back pieces and nailed them to the two side pieces. Sam held the pieces while his dad hammered. The nails went in with loud tap-tap-tap sounds.

After that, they attached the bottom piece. They nailed it to all four sides. The walls of the birdhouse were now complete. Sam was excited to see it taking shape.

Next, they drilled a small hole in the front piece. This would be the entrance for the birds. Sam helped hold the drill steady. The hole was just the right size.

Then, they sanded all the rough edges with sandpaper. Sam rubbed the wood until it was smooth. This kept the birds from getting splinters.

Finally, they attached the roof piece to the top. Sam and his dad nailed it carefully. They stepped back and admired their work. The birdhouse looked wonderful!

The next week, a family of sparrows moved in. Sam watched them build their nest inside. He knew his hard work had paid off!
