The Lost Puppy
One sunny afternoon, eight-year-old Tommy was playing in his backyard when he heard a small whimpering sound. He looked around and spotted a tiny golden puppy hiding under the porch. The puppy looked scared and thin.
"Don't worry, little one," Tommy whispered softly. He slowly walked inside and got some dog food and water from his garage. The puppy wagged its tail and ate hungrily. Tommy noticed the puppy didn't have a collar or tag, so he didn't know where it came from.
Tommy's mother helped him make lost dog posters. They drew a picture of the puppy and wrote "LOST PUPPY" in big letters. They included their phone number and posted the signs around the neighborhood.
For three days, Tommy cared for the puppy. He gave it food, water, and lots of love. The puppy slept in a cozy box in Tommy's room. They played together in the yard every afternoon.
On the fourth day, the phone rang. A woman on the other end said, "I think that's my puppy, Buddy! He ran away from my yard last week." Tommy was happy to hear Buddy's name, but he felt sad about saying goodbye. When the woman came to pick up Buddy, she thanked Tommy for taking such good care of her dog. She gave Tommy a big hug and promised to bring Buddy back to visit.
