The Race

A fast hare and a slow tortoise lived in the same forest. The hare was always bragging about how quick he was. "I am the fastest animal in the forest!" he would say. "No one can run as fast as me!"

The tortoise was quiet and never said mean things. But one day, the tortoise got tired of listening to the hare brag. "Let's have a race," said the tortoise calmly. "We can race to the big oak tree on the other side of the forest."

The hare laughed. "You want to race me? That is funny! I will beat you so easily. This will not even be a real race!"

The next morning, they started their race. The hare ran very fast and quickly got far ahead of the tortoise. The hare was so sure he would win that he decided to take a nap under a shady tree.

"The tortoise is so slow," thought the hare. "I have plenty of time to rest."

Meanwhile, the tortoise kept walking slowly but steadily. He did not stop to rest. He just kept moving forward, one step after another. The tortoise passed the sleeping hare and kept going.

A long time later, the hare woke up. He stretched and yawned. He looked around and did not see the tortoise anywhere. The hare ran as fast as he could toward the oak tree. But when he got there, he saw the tortoise already waiting for him!

The tortoise had won the race! The hare could not believe it. His face turned red with embarrassment.

"How did you beat me?" asked the hare sadly.

"I did not give up," said the tortoise kindly. "I kept moving forward, even though I was slow. You were fast, but you were lazy and too confident."

The hare learned an important lesson that day. He stopped bragging and became friends with the tortoise. He learned that being slow and steady is better than being fast and lazy.

The moral of the story is: Slow and steady wins the race. Hard work and never giving up are better than speed and laziness.
